Elderly woman accused of stealing cat

In Georgia, an 86-year-old woman, Fauniel Kliemt, is facing a criminal charge over a cat that she's been caring for since 2007. The cat, whom she calls "Shatzie," was a stray, or so the woman thought. Eight months later, another woman showed up and said that Shatzie was HER child's cat. Which is when the proverbial fur started to fly. Kliemt isn't giving up the cat, and the other woman isn't going away.

The other family says they put up signs for the cat, but thought she was dead. Kliemt has been charged with theft of lost or mislaid property, which is a misdemeanor.

Hat Tip: Many thanks, Keith G in PV!

I have a couple of cats I inherited this way that showed up on my doorsteps and never left. I need compensation if someone shows up on my door step claiming ownership. With my wife however, taking the cats would be a declaration of war.

I say give each half of the cat. This opinion courtesy of King Solomon.

Let the cat decide.

After all, he did run away from who?

The cat's old owner is being a female dog.

That Otey woman is a witch for trying to take back that cat! Ms. Kliemt took in that stray, gave it food and water after it had been starved, got all it's shots and had it spayed, like a caring cat owner should. That woman only came looking for that cat nearly a year later and literally ripped it out of that poor woman's arms. She put up one flyer and it was in her own coldasauc! Ms. Kliemt didn't steal anything, she was given that cat as a gift after a neighbor found it hanging around his house. If Fulton County really wants to waste taxpayers good hard earned money they should be charging HIM with the theft and HER with receiving stolen property! Both which are completely upserd charges anyways. That cat was the only thing that helped her grieve over her late husband of 60 years... it's no wonder she loves that cat so much and doesn't want another. Even if that woman got the cat back, it would just run right back over to Ms. Kliemt's house where it knows is it's home! And what kind of lesson is that woman trying to teach her daughter anyways? She should try teaching her compassion and about giving and not about being mean and a bully. And if her daughter is only 4 does that mean she bought her the cat when she was only 1? Seriously, the little girl would have been happy with another cat! And Otey didn't even BUY that kitten, it was from a litter of the cat she already had! I really hope that Ms. Kliemt gets to keep the cat because the only crime would be to give it back to Otey where it will be neglected.

Kristin, I see a future judge in you.

Too bad you're too decent to actually get voted in!
