An HIV-positive Michigan man has been ordered to stand trial on charges that, when he allegedly bit his neighbor's lip, he was intentionally using the virus as a weapon. (The fight? It was over a football that had landed in the man's yard.) The defendant says he was only defending himself.

Although this guy shuold go to jail, it amazes me how quick the criminal justice system is in making this an illegal act when people can run from the police in cars in essense using them as deadly weapons and receive only a slap on the wrist.

The odds are if Allen wasn't gay, he would't be HIV positive.
If Allen wasn't HIV positive, this would be a simple assualt charge, or might not have happened at all. [that thought stems from the 'nothing to lose' comment the victims wife alleges she heard Allen mutter]
So basically, this is news because of Allen's homosexuality.
Just one more crime that possibly could have been avoided by heterosexuality.
Believe it or not, I'm stopping there.

Right, Pat, because straight people have never, ever gotten HIV or AIDS.

I'm sorry -- anybody who thinks that AIDS/HIV is strictly a "gay disease" is living in the dark ages. Yes, it does impact gay people at a higher rate. But the disease can also be transmitted through heterosexual sex, drug use and other means.

James, you don't have to apologize.. you didn't say anything that you don't believe in.

I really do try to keep my mouth shut most of the time. And I don't want to scare anybody out of commenting just because I disagree with them on some points.

Meh he could have gotten aids 1000 different ways. My grandmother got Hep C when she was in the hospital giving birth to my aunt. She needed a blood transfussion and they gave her dirty blood. So making this a sexual orientation debate is kinda dumb.
The real debate is what time of sick mother would do that knowing they had aids? I mean really thats nuts.

I think its safe to assume the gay guy contracted HIV from gay sex.
After all, the article did say Mr Allen is gay.
Now I'm done. Goodnite guys.

More straight people than gay people in the world have HIV/AIDS. The fastest growing group of people contracting HIV/AIDS in America today are IV Drug users and people of color.
Pat is just stuck in his Neanderthalic fixation that his god cares enough about where someone sticks his penis to craft a disease to punish him.

As a Molecular Biologist, I would like to take the time to point out that there has only ever, since 1984, been one documented case of HIV being transmitted through the mouth. The fact that Allen bit him poses no risk, unless Allen himself is 1) not on Meds and Has a high viral load, and 2) has a cut or is bleeding in his own mouth as well so there can in fact be transmission.
Also HIV is a virus, it does not discriminate against Gay people, straight people, or whatever the subclass may be. This is a disease that is the product of poverty and sociological depression.
To further extend a point someone else made, the fastest growing demographic of people becoming infected is women of color.

If I have a cold and chase you with a booger, am I using a virus as a weapon?
Just wondering, 'cause I've got the sniffles and I'm very irritable.

MAIM.. I am going to have to call you on your misinterpretation of the numbers. Gays are the fastest. You are going by just the amount.
Gays make up a much smaller percentage of the population than any of these groups.. yet a higher percentage of them contract Aids...
So, if there are a million straights and 50,000 contract HIV, that would only be 5%.
But if there are 250,000 gays and 50,000 of them contract HIV, that would be 20%. So you would be 4X as likely to get HIV from a gay person than a straight one, although the exact same amount of infected people is used in this equation.
Disclaimer
These numbers are not real they are fictitious in an effort to teach people who don't understand that percentages tell the tale, and not amounts.

and black women are the fastest growing group.. but gays still are the largest group.

The groups - as a percentage of respective population - that are experiencing the fastest rate of increase in new infections in the United States are in order -
Women of Color
People of Color (both men and women)
IV Drug users (both men and women)
Once again, Searching is popping off without knowing the facts.
