It's been five days since 7-month-old Shannon Dedrick was reported missing. The little girl was found in a box under the baby sitter's bed, surrounded by other items so that police wouldn't find her. Only they did, and now she's in protective custody. The sitter, her husband and -- surprisingly -- the baby's own mother are all expected to face charges, though authorities aren't explaining the motive yet.
Hat Tip: Many thanks, Golfer!

looking at the baby, the mother must be an alien.
(the kind from outerspace, not south o' border)

It appears that the babysitter Susan Baker and her husband James Baker are potsmoking potheads living in a messy house. Susan has prior convictions of battery. There was another 3 year old child gone missing in her care. The report does not say anything about baby Shannon Dedrick's mother and father. Baby Shannons father James Dedrick is RELATED to the babysitter Susan Baker. So if they knew her past, why on earth let her babysit for Shannon? Where is the mother of the 7mo old baby all this time?

The baby has a sweet small face, and big head. She will be a stunning FASHION model when she grows up. They seem to like girls with big head, lots of hair, and small heart shaped faces. Shannon will look like that.

You know I am very disturbed by these comments. THANK GOD THIS CHILD WAS FOUND ALIVE. THERE ARE KIDS EVERYDAY THAT AREN'T SO LUCKY AND ALL YOU CAN TALK ABOUT IS HER LOOKS. EVERY CHILD IS A BEAUTIFUL GIFT FROM GOD. I PRAY THAT THE PEOPLE MAKING THESE COMMENTS ARE NEVER BLESSED WITH SUCH AN AWESOME GIFT. PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON WE HAVE ANOREXICS, BULEMICS, TEENAGE SUICIDE. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF...

Someone tell that baby that bulimia will not make her head smaller. She needs to know that.
Posted by: rhonda | Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 09:41 AM
LMAO @ rhonda. You're bad - I like you.

Christy - If you are on this long enough, you will realize these fine folks are JOKING.
From where I stand, they said nothing wrong and were trying to inject a little humor in a sad situation.
Do not be SO literal in your interpretation.
I posted the story, but knowing the folks who have commented, they mean no harm, most have children and are excellent parents.

Summer wrote: "potsmoking potheads".
That would stand to reason wouldn't you think.
Now as to the baby. I'm glad it's safe and hopefully going into a better enviroment. But seriously folks, if a child looked like that one might want to look into UFO sightings in that area 16 mos ago.

Golfer---Thanks for defending the integrity of the fine folks who regularly post here. When James gets back from furlough on the 16th he should commend you. Thanks again. We really are pretty harmless and just trying to find a little humor in a sick mixed-up world but once in a while we do take a serious side and have excellent discussions. Christys just not used to us yet.

since some thread whores are trying to taint my good name, I want to point out that my comment was that the MOTHER was most likely an alien. Besides, I think baby aliens are cute too. ;)

Good work, Golfer!
Also: I was intrigued to learn that Crime Scene causes eating disorders.

James---I thought your e-mail said you were gonna be gone today. Thanks for the e-mail warning me of your coming absence.

"Thread whores"? Us? I've been called worse Aqua but from you I think I'll take it as a compliment as I consider you just another one of us. Hugs and kisses.

Cripjak: I'm "mostly" on vacation today. I'll probably do another half-hour this morning, then disappear for a while.

Apparently the baby's not the only alien.
Christy's from planet CAPSLOCK.

aqua has a good name?

cripjak, my comment was not directed towards you. but now that you mention it, I guess I am a thread whore too. :)

Elrond, as good as it gets ... ;)
Posted by: aqua | Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Enjoy it James and if I may be so bold and speak for the "Thread whores" STAY SAFE!!! It's a SICK, SICK world out there.

I'm guessing the box was addressed to the authorities at Area 51
Posted by: Mike Oxlong | Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 10:39 AM
The problem with the babysitter's excuse is that it's The Men in Black not The People in Black or The Women in Black.
CuckooRaja - Planet CAPSLOCK was too funny.
I think the real lesson today is that there are not just the two well known letter cases - uppercase and lowercase - but a third as well; headcase.

Ya'll are too funny today! Christy, believe it or not, I read this blog ESPECIALLY for the funny comments. They do that a lot here, and aqua tends to get a bit perverted sometimes, so if it bothers you, don't read it. Otherwise, don't say you weren't warned.

Jokes aside, Communitites need to work together to help take care of the kids in this world.

Unfortunately NIMBY is their motto and the state will take care of the children.... sort of....
Posted by: Wisdom | Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 03:38 PM
Besides... I thought it took a village to raise a child.....
Probably why people are not having more than one or two.... too many villages have to get involved.... Then you get into zoning issues and crossing state lines....it's just really messy

Poor baby. She looks so sad, no expression. Probably neglected and malnourished. She obviously has some medical problems. Some people just need to be neutered. I hope she is never allowed back with her loser parents. Mom probably traded her for some crack money. I hope she finds a loving, caring home.

OMG...thank god the baby has been found alive and LMAOOOOOOO at the freaking comments. I am SOOO sorry but they are soo freaking hilarious!!

Nobody puts baby under the bed.
If I'm going to hell, I might as well go first class.
Posted by: D-man | Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 07:50 PM
How can people be so cruel and say such mean things about this poor innocent child. You ought to be ASHAMED of yourselves. Thank god she was found and ALIVE!!!
Posted by: Brandy | Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 09:41 PM
That is so sad. God Bless That Baby.... I hope the people involved for such a awful tragic suffer.. The people making the comments should be ashamed of there selfs...

This is a big part of the worlds problems, so many people without a sense of humor. I am so glad this little one was found safe.I wonder if her alien grandparents were passing anonymous tips to the sheriff on where she was.

There's more to this story than meets the eye. It appears the baby's mother didn't want her & the babysitter did, and that the only thing stopping the mother from giving custody to the babysitter was the baby's father (hence the reason they charged the mother with custodial interference).
If the baby's parents really were as heinous as alleged, then its hard to fault the babysitter for trying to work out a 'safe' arrangement for the transfer, even though they're crazy for thinking it stood a snowball's chance of working.

I'm really glad she is safe. But that picture is creeping me out. Oh that reminds me, the Macy's parade is just around the corner.
