Happy weekend folks!
Wait, are the weekends covered now with James on his mini-kinda-vacation?
I'm surprised that there wasn't anything on the shooting down in Orlando at a office building.
My brother actually treated one of the people who was shot there at the hospital. Shame that the shooter didn't finish himself off after such a senseless display of violence.

Here's a great blog that posts a new note that was used in a bank robbery, along with picture and/or mugshot of the robber where available.
It includes a handy icon for each demand note entry to denote if the robbery was successful (got the cash) or not. Some of the entries are very funny - including one guy who specifically warns the teller against putting a tracking device in with the money, but is caught by . . . you betcha - a tracking device.

Girl who called 911 about Homecoming Dance rape: "I am not a snitch".
It is a terrible state of affairs that this should even be a thought in such a case. Parents and teachers need to do a better job teaching responsibility both so that such crimes are not contemplated and also that when it does, youths are not hesitant to come forward in such cases.

I agree.

Parents.. parents. It is the family unit that should be teaching morals and civic responsibilities.
To even think that there is something wrong with calling in a gang beating and a rape, shows a grave family history, and a perpetuation of the "police are our enemy mentality. I am glad it not part of mine.

I agree the first responsibility lay with parents and family. However, I am pragmatic enough to recognize that not all families do that, which is why I think teachers and other adults in authority roles in a child's life need to be involved.

Searching how is the mouth? I checked the garden to see what condition some of the beans were to see if there were any that dried rather than rotted after the freeze and found a couple of almost ripe tomatoes and a lot of new ones just setting on. This plant was next to a blackbery and apparently did not die completely. I am going to let nature do it's thing but I may have my own tomatoes for Thanksgiving.
My parents taught us that if someone would hurt a weaker smaller person we should attempt to stop it. Most bullies, but not all, are chickens.

Hello all. Aunt still in hospital, blood sugar and oxygen going all over the place, but she's hanging in there.
Came home to enjoy warm weather, grilled steaks, sat outide - even brought the Big Bird outside.

I was expecting that the next post we saw from you would be that she had passed away. Has she done the asking for her rings before or is this new?
Big Bird looks like it wants a bite out of something.
I put together the tall bookcase I got at Ikea then looked at my cookbooks. I had thought I could get most of them on the bookcase but I am begining to think I am wrong. Found a series that is solid stained pine board that is real easy to put together. Now I just have to clear the shelves, put bookcase in place and refill. I think I may be real tired when I get through.

She still says she is going to meet her late husband, and says she hears people talking. Also asks, why am I here, why can't I go home. Then she says, Wait just a minute - was I walking on the street and did I get hit by a car? Is that why I'm here? Then she would remember that the two guys from the ambulance came into her house. These same questions cycled over and over ever 20 seconds for the hour I was there. So - who knows what comes next.
Big Bird has a really big beak. We ground it down some (thanks to the kind fellow from Beaks & Wings.) She seemed amazed to be outside; I think she senses that the light is different now, and there were terns flying overhead, and lots of songbirds making noise. So she was quite still and took a bite out of nothing.
Having too many cookbooks is not a bad thing, AH. I'm a bit jealous!

Mouth is doing better, as of this afternoon. If I wasnt drinking spiced apple cider with rum in it at our meeting last night, I would have never made it through it. I have taken no tylenol or pain meds all day.
Hey, but did get rid of approx 500lbs of leaves from our property today. (amybe exaggerating, dont care) and found a bunch of green peppers. Cant measure by the wheel barrow, but can measure by the flavor... MMMMMMMM
Posted by: Searching | Saturday, November 07, 2009 at 09:34 PM
Searching I will have to teach you about composting. It really will improve your soil. Enjoy the peppers. Until later.

AH, we take the leaves out to the back of the property and dump them, and then mother nature takes care of them there.

Searching -
Composting is just a more organized version of what you do. You can then mix the resultant rich soil into your lawn and/or garden for amazing results.

Yeah, I know that. But with everything else on my "to do" list, just seems like something else I have to do. :)

Well, hubby is out doing his recycling and I am canning apple butter and applesauce. Not really hard, just slow going. Gotta cook all the water down in the apples.. and there is a LOT of water in apples.
Oh, well, it's worth it.

Search, my Oregon relatives had a cider press, and after they were done they dumped the squeezings over the fence in the pasture next door.
One year, the cattle grazing next door ate the fermented apple mash. The whole herd got snockered; apparently it was amusing to watch.
Posted by: Patty PV | Sunday, November 08, 2009 at 11:08 AM
That would be fun to watch! LOL
Posted by: Searching | Sunday, November 08, 2009 at 11:59 AM
Ok, 27 pints of applesauce done.. 12 pints of applebutter to go! whew!

Searching I hope you are planning on sharing with James for the stress of trying to keep us in line?
Dumping them makes for good compost. My brain thought you had hauled them off. To speed the breakdown I used to pour partial cans and bottles of soda on the pile. Now I sprinkle sugar since we don't have much soda.
I was taking a break before starting to move things but must get on with the project.

AH, I was talking about hauling them out from within the perimeter fence. You've been out here, so you know what I am talking about. We have huge trees and they left quite a deposit of leaves.. EVERYWHERE LOL
