This is disgusting: A 25-year-old woman named Ashley Thomas was shot and killed Friday evening on Armour, in the 1300 block. Thomas was nine months pregnant. Doctors were unable to save her child. A man found with her is still in critical condition. Here's the KCPD statement on the shooting ...
Officers tonight were called at 518pm to the 1300 block of East Armor Road to investigate a shooting. When they arrived, they found a male (driver side) and a female (front passenger seat) sitting in a car in front of an apartment building. The male and female had both been shot.
The female, in her 20's, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. The woman was reportedly 9 months pregnant and medical staff were not able to save the unborn child. The male was transported to an area hospital where he is being treated for potentially life threatening injuries. He is in his late teens to early 20's. A witness reported seeing 2 males running northeast from the vehicle after the shooting.
We will not count the woman's unborn child as a homicide until the medical examiner makes a ruling on the viability of the fetus.
Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline.

Kansas City needs a landlord licensing requirement with minimum standards for landlords and enforceable penalties. For too long slumlords have been able to get by and ignore drug dealing and other illegal activity on their property and by their tenants. Armour Blvd. from Main to The Paseo has long been an abscess on the surrounding areas.
Police also need to do more to patrol this area and step up enforcement in this area. Police, even though there is a station at Linwood and Forest (only 3 blocks from this area), don't do enough to stem street level prostitution and drug dealing that provides cover for those engaged in more serious crimes.
There are many hardworking families and individuals who live in the high-rises and apartment buildings along Armour Blvd. Their quality of life and safety, along with that of surrounding neighborhoods, are compromised by landlords and police who are willing to ignore crime and violence.

This is Section 8 and the scum landlords are given your tax dollars by HUD. See "Toellner Tells It " for recap of this mess...

It's not the landlord's job to police residents. This has very little to do with HUD and a lot to do with the fact that there are a few bad seeds in the neighborhood. I know all you fancy people with your expensive homes in Hyde Park want the Section 8 tenants to be segregated from your happy revitalized neighborhood, but there are other ways to do it.
