With 47 pedestrian fatalities in 2007-08, the Kansas City area had a danger index of 84.6, higher than St. Louis at 76.9 or Wichita at 72.4. About 10.7 percent of traffic deaths in Kansas City were pedestrians, the report showed.
The Kansas City area averages 1.18 deaths per 100,000 people compared to St. Louis with a rate of 1.28 per 100,000. St. Louis, however, has a slightly larger percentage of people who walk to work than Kansas City, which makes Kansas City look worse in today’s report.
Overall, Kansas City ranked 20th overall nationwide in terms of the most dangerous metropolitan areas for pedestrians.

Does the lack of stop signs on the Plaza have anything to do with it?
I was told when I moved here that there is an implied stop sign on every corner of the plaza - but no actual signs because they interfered with the ambiance.
True?

A grade "F" for traffic planners.
I wonder how much of this was around these new shopping centers like the Legends where idiot traffic planners funnel all the traffic in and out through a single uncontrolled interesection. Then you have pedestrians running across that intersection. Sending all the traffic through a bottle neck makes no sense.
