In Troy, Mich., a father called the police to report his 16-year-old daughter, who was allegedly growing a marijuana plant in her closet. It's not clear from the story whether the girl has a history of drug use, but I wondered what most people would do in that situation. I figure most people, if they caught their kid with a joint, would probably institute a grounding or hobbling BEFORE they got the justice system involved.

Rush Limbaugh used to always say that "once a drug addict, always a drug addict." No hope of rehab, no hope of recovery.
Of course that was before he was found to be a drug addict and declared himself to be cured after rehab.
So, with the sage of wisdom so confused, I don't know what to think for myself.

When a friend grounded his son for getting caught with weed, the boy complained, "But DAD, you do it too!" My friend answered, "Yeah, and if I get caught, I'll be in trouble too. You're grounded for getting caught".
I thought that was pretty funny.
I'd confiscate the weed and make her pay the electric bill. I hear those grow lights are pricey.

At least let the plant mature, just in case it was going to be some good stuff.

Girl had a okay low tech set up.
Too bad it wasn't at a stage where it was even usable. I'd had to get into legal trouble when even more so when theres nothing to get into trouble over.

I wish I had that kind of insight as a teen. I had to go deal with a-holes that would always try and skimp your bag. That is, until I became friends with the a-holes that they were buying from.

Calling in the State to discipline your child is the ultimate form of child abuse.

I would confiscate said weed from her, and tell her if she ever brings good green bud weed into my house again I'll confiscate that too. and if she can do that by next weekend that would be preferable. Now here's a hundred bucks, run along.

I'd make her finish growing and drying to see if she knew what she was doing. Then I'd confiscate it for her own good.....
;)

You have that right, KC Cicero. All calling the police will do is put the parents on the hook for legal expenses.
What you do is destroy the weed and tell the kid that bringing the plant into the house is an invitation to bring people into your life you don't want or need. Inviting the government into your house where there are illegal substances can result in the forfeiture of everything you own. The police are the last people you want to call for anything.

I can't see any good coming from police intervention, and can't help but wonder what he was thinking, although I understand being frustrated with a teen daughter. I imagine in the end, Dad will be punished with more fines than the daughter.

I hate to say this, but I have done agriculture studies ( legit) and have heard that marijuanna helps keep pests away from potatoes and tomatoes. It also cross polinates with marigolds.
So, you could actually try to make your kid a farmer, and actually make them grow food. *kidding*

Waaaay back in the 70's I had a pot plant on my window sill. My parents recognized it, but also recognized that my attention span was too short to allow it to survive to maturity. They gave me the lowered eyebrow treatment and a couple of AHEM's but they were right. I got impatient and tried to smoke it when it was like 8" tall... waste of time. My father was less impressed when I painted a giant pot leaf on my bedroom wall. It was about five feet across. It didn't stay there too long before he painted over it. I threw a temper tantrum of course, how could he -- I was the next Rembrandt, and why couldn't he see that? He was mysteriously unmoved. :)

As officers of the court, some of us have no choice but call the police. . . or so I told my kids. It worked until the 3rd kid.

This person should be reported to child services for being a horrible parent!!! What a douch. This guy obviously needs to hit a bong and get some perspective.

Now don't go getting your panties in a twist folks, it's legal for medical use in our state. Boo-ya!

We used to have many small specialty agricultural businesses in the USA until NAFTA outsourced all of it to Mexico.
Let's shut down the border and support our local entrepreneurs.
