Ill. couple sue after they say they were falsely arrested

In Chicago, a couple was accused of burglarizing a house that, in reality, they had been hired to repair. Jonathan and Ashely Cooper even provided a work order to police when they arrived at the scene, having been called by a concerned neighbor. (The Coopers were putting a lock on an abandoned house.)

Neither Jonathan or Ashley were read their Miranda rights. They were taken into custody at the Chicago Lawn District police station where Ashley was allegedly strip-searched and Jonathan was charged with burglary -- possession of tools with the intent to commit a theft -- and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for an unloaded handgun that was found in his vehicle's glove box, the suit said.

On Feb. 5, Officer Ryan allegedly falsely testified at a hearing to determine probable cause regarding the charges against Jonathan, allegedly saying that Jonathan never provided a work order and that the handgun was uncased and loaded at the time of the incident among other things, the suit said.

Hat Tip: Many thanks, Keith G in PV!

No situation ever got better for anybody when the cops showed up.

Just ask the person that called on these two.

*waiting for the usual crew to get out of bed*

And furthermore, the arresting officer should be fired, and never allowed to be employed as a LEO ever again.

Got to start somewhere.

Ooops!!!

Why does this not surprise me....

Chicago, very corrupt. Oh, that's where obama is from.

"Officer Ryan allegedly falsely testified at a hearing..."

Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Lol Barney...thats right I almost forgot, or was trying to. :)

*waiting for the usual crew to get out of bed*--brad

What, you mean the corrupt cops? But of course you and the other cop apologists will defend these thugs with badges. Arsehole cops should be the exception not the rule...

It is the exception, Mr. One-side.

Was the LEO told, earlier that morning, get me a bust or you're fired?

To Barney's talking rectum: It's spelled h-e-m-o-r-r-h-o-i-d

"It is the exception, Mr. One-side." Do Do

Keep telling yourself that, you might start to believe it...oh wait I forgot cops are heroes to those always on their nuts.

Was the LEO told, earlier that morning, get me a bust or you're fired?

Oooooh that kind of bust. My bad.

The problem that I have after reading the article is that this is what the lawsuit stated. Their word against the officers. Since the two weren't seen inside the garage, I can see the case being dropped, whether they (man and woman) were there lawfully or not. That said, if the work order was presented and there was no evidence that a crime was being committed, it is an obvious example of bad police work. And if the officer did present false testimony he should be fired and charged. This kind of incident is fuel to the fire of those who hate cops no matter what.

How can you allegedly give false testimony? Just like the other people allegedly didn't have a work order.

Anyway yeah Chicago sucks I expect this from people in that city. You could fire every officer and it woudln't matter it would still suck. You could jail all the thugs and it would still suck. And the Cubs suck. Fire all the cops specially the corrupt Cub fan cops.

Who puts a lock back on a door as they exit their robbery scene. Geez. Chicago was needing a little extra cash flow apparantly.

Just like in every profession, there are good cops, bad cops. And good cops who are paid to be lying cops. And good cops who have a bad day and screw someone over cops. And good cops who let off thier buds and the cheifs kid cops but screw the innocent. And good cops who cover up evidence for prosecution cops.

Start at the top and clean house.

Bottom line is, when you have a he said/she said situation. The cop comes in wearing a uniform, the prosecution states what great, honest, hard working people they are and the jury "aws" and the innocent get locked up.

Yeah, they get it right sometimes, but then that person has enough money to get out of the situation and it goes away, no lying cop needed. But I guess there is the occassional "have to send someone away" deal (Vick, Madoff) some things you just can't hide.

Problem is the judicial system gets more and more corrupt each day and you simply CAN'T be an honest person and be employed by it! Lots of people would make good cops and good lawyers but they would be fired or politically cut off if they didn't go along with the cover ups, etc.

Sad!

Good work officer Lier er Ryan. Guys like you is what makes some of us pray that all you guys in blue die in some extremely terribly horrible way and soon!!!

Clue number 1 mister policeman: Why would a burgular be putting a lock ON a house?

Again, if you go to the original article, it reads, "According to the suit". I'm not defending the cop if he screwed up but there aren't any interviews with the neighbors, no interviews with the parent company that the man and woman worked for to confirm there was a work order, etc. Usually the media will have check with independent sources to confirm a story.

Davey...... really?
