UPDATE: Police no longer seek Liberty boy

UPDATE: Glenn Rice reports that police have contacted the dad, and it sounds like things are going to be worked out via child welfare. Kiddo is believed to be OK.

From Mark Morris: Liberty police asked for the public’s help in finding a boy who they think was taken by his father Sunday. Officers were trying to locate Orin Brightwell, 8, who had spent the weekend with his father, Hector Cantu.

Cantu last was seen in Liberty about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, driving a black Ford F-150 with gray and silver stripes on the sides and bearing Tennessee license plate 716 CBS. Police said they had no indication that Orin was in any danger. Cantu suggested that he intended to take Orin out of state, possibly to Texas or Tennessee, police said.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Orin or Cantu should call the Liberty Police Department at 816-439-4701.

he is with his dad...move on...

Easy for you to say. You're not the mother wondering where her child is less than two weeks before Christmas.

The Porter kids were with their dad, too.

more mothers kill their children then dads do, we just get the bad rap...mom has no more ownership over the child than the dad does..

Oops forgot to close my tag.

And as far as ownership, the court decides that. And apparently, Dad did not win

there is no OWNERSHIP...both have equal stock in the child...it another example where the government should stay out of family matters...dad didnt win because the courts and society in general still feel mothers are better parents than fathers and this is simply not the case...

oh wow 2%..oh I stand corrected...

You should stand corrected, not only did you claim women did it more You made it sound like that was obvious.
You must have been stung pretty dang hard.

and ownership was your choice of words, I was just reiterating it in terms that you would relate to.

stung pretty hard? lol....like this is a contest...get a grip dude...did i make it sould obvious? I dont think so...but those stats are not all emcompasing as those were just kids under 5 and only up to 05 and I think we have seen an increase in women commiting these sort of crimes...at any rate - my position here is that anytime dad takes off with his kid we assume the worse and that he "kidnapped" his own children. I know what the law reads but that dont make it right. I just find it hard to swallow any dad or mom kidnapping their own kid. Sure bad things happen to kids in the care of a disgruntled ex but i think we all go there with out knowing the full story.

I have to go clean my wounds cause of the spanking i just took....lol

wow "reiterating"...I dont know what that means..lol...use your big fancy words..

I used ownership to put it in simple terms most people imply when talking about these sorts of things…just some women and like minded men, who take the most popular position cause they have no nads, think of kids as being the custodial parents possessions and not children they both brought in to the world and have equal stock in.

I am talking about having been stung by a women in the past..

Being the sperm donor doesn't necessarily guarantee you the right to take off with the kid, though. Maybe there's a reason why he wasn't the custodial parent in the first place. And I think let him be is missing the fact that at some point the "dad" indicated he was taking the kid out of state. Most custodial agreements frown upon that even when both parents appear to be responsible.

Dan,

You're not just a "sperm donor" when it comes time to collect that child support check, are you?

lol Marvin...right on....they sure love those checks rolling in...
