In Phoenix, police say a California man drove to their offices and confessed to bludgeoning his neighbor to death for drug money in 1988. As the article notes, the man got away with murder ... and couldn't stand it.
According to police, Jackson fled to California, weaned himself off drugs and reconnected with his religion - but the guilt caused him such distress, he went to Georgia to ask his sister for advice, and then directly from his sister's house to turn himself in.

Not unheard of at all. Happens more than you would think.
