William May, 48, was convicted Wednesday of killing his 71-year-old father, Doyle, this spring. (The specific charge was second-degree murder, though the judge had argued that it should've been manslaughter.) From Joe Lambe's report:
William May’s mother, Margaret May, had testified that her son, who lived in the couple’s basement, had been downstairs playing guitar and drinking beer before the confrontation. He came upstairs about 11 p.m. and wanted to talk, but his father said the couple wanted to sleep.
Margaret May said her son then jumped out of his chair and struck her 71-year-old husband. The younger May said, “You should have gotten me that camper a long time ago before you got me the truck,” his mother had testified.
Margaret May went to another room to call police, but her husband tried to reason with her son, saying, “If you’ll straighten up and go downstairs, we won’t call police.” Her son responded by ripping the phone off the wall.
The police showed up and arrested the younger May. Though he didn't medical attention at the time, Doyle May collapsed a short time later and eventually died from a blood clot on his brain. The defense argued that he could've been saved if doctors had tried draining the clot, which they didn't do.

48 year old, living in the basement, off of his elderly parents, and demanding stuff...something was bound to happen with this guy sooner or later.
