Local coach posed as girl on Facebook to get child porn

Michael T. Cowley, 39, Shawnee, pleaded guilty to posing as a 19-year-old girl so that boys would send him naked photos of themselves, the U.S. Attorney for Kansas reports. Authorities say Cowley then sent back naked photos of a girl that he found online. He's been sentenced to 17 and a half years. Snip:

Investigators determined that Cowley was employed by the Olathe School District and the Jewish Community Center.

He taught a computer class at Brentwood Elementary School in Overland Park, coached various boys’ baseball and basketball teams, drove a bus route for the California Trail Junior High School in Olathe, Kan., and worked for the Jewish Community Center as director of a summer sports camp for 1st through 6th grade boys and girls.

17 1/2 years seems pretty tough for this type of crime compared to murderes who often get less time.

Kev, while I agree that this sentence is only a touch high, I think the difference is in the shockingly low sentences that murderers get. You're right though.

It's no surprise another child rapist has been getting his thrills in Kansas. The state is known for encouraging and protecting child rapist. Maybe it's a fluke.
Shawnee has been a hub for child rapist for the last 80 years. Why do they all of a sudden care that some poor teacher wanted naked pictures of boys. It never bothered them before. Could the difference be that they finally got rid of Morris and his baby raping protection crew. After all he was spending his time swinging with them. Gee, does this mean a person who gets their sexual thrills from kids won't be having as much fun in Kansas as they are use to having.

Someone posted their opinion on the sentence handed down for the production of child porn being over excessive. It's easy to be so gracious when the pictures don't depict your own baby having their innocence stolen away.
