Most people know about the Super Bowl drug heist from 2007, when a drum of pseudoephedrine was stolen from a Sanofi-Aventis facility in south Kansas City during the game. That's about 110 pounds worth of material. But the feds say that waste material containing pseudoephedrine -- a key ingredient meth -- had been quietly stolen from the facility over the span of 10 years. They estimate about 1,000 pounds was taken.
The waste material isn't good enough for making meds, but it's still "pharmaceutical grade," the U.S. Attorney for Western Missouri reports. Two people have now pleaded guilty to the crime. Garland Duane Hankins, 42, of Oak Grove, worked at the company hired to dispose of the waste. The other man pleading was Blake William Folsom, 42, of Raytown.
Hankins primarily sold the stolen pseudoephedrine to co-defendant Stacey Marie Walker, 38, of Blue Springs, Mo., who in turn sold to other co-defendants, including Folsom.
