Let me see if we have this straight:
We are mad at this guy because he was encouraging kids who are being taught on the streets to settle things with .9MMs to instead use fists like kids did in the 1950's?
What IDIOTS think this is a bad thing?
OK, in theory, no young men should ever turn to violence of any kind, ever. And, if "theory" were located anywhere near reality, it would make sense to be upset. But young men DESPERATELY need to find ways to focus aggression without firearms -- and a fair, monitored fistfight is way better than a firefight on the streets.
You can win a fistfight without becoming a killer; you can lose without becoming a corpse. This is not an inconsequential difference. Would that EVERY gangbanger in America & elsewhere used their fists to settle disputes.

Then this isn't a "Fight Club" story - this is "Friday".

"Oh, no, son. That's not the way it is. You kids have been nothin' but punks. Sissified. So quick to pick up a gun. Too scared to take an ass-whipping. [raises his fists] This is what makes you a man. When I was growing up, this was all the protection we needed. You win some, you lose some. But you live. You live to fight another day."

why is everyone so upset about this? these kids are in jail for much worse than a fistfight they need to know what it is like to feel their flesh hitting someone so that maybe they will think twice before they inflict pain on someone who is too often an innocent
how about teaching the rules of engagement or what is a chicken shot and what is fair game

I'm from a rural part of kc, so i don't have to worry about gun violence, but i see it on the news. The truth is, like the rest of the comments here say, fists are better than 9mm's. And even if we put that fact aside, this guy is getting in trouble for supervising. That's like someone arresting a lifeguard in a no swimming zone. He's there to keep it safe, so why should he get in trouble. If anyone should get in any trouble, it should be the fighters, not the guy who makes sure everyone comes out alive.
