Mom got murder suspect to confess

In Clayton, Mo., the defense is trying to get a confession kicked in the case of Brian Walters, who allegedly murdered a retired newspaper editor in 2008 during a break-in at her Chesterfield home. It wasn't police who got Walters to admit to killing Nancy Miller -- it was Walters' own mother, who had pointed her recently paroled son out to police. The tape was played in court, the Post-Dispatch reports, and its contents are heart-breaking:

"It's all over, honey. I'm sorry," Walters is heard telling her son, Brian Walters, on a videotape played in court of an interrogation at the Chesterfield police station. "If you wait until the evidence comes back and there's DNA evidence, then it's too late to tell them."

The defense tried arguing that police had forced Mom into helping, but she denied that in court. She said she had to know the truth about what happened. And she thought there might be some explanation that could help him in court, if he just came clean.

Hat Tip: Many thanks, Pat!

I feel sorry for that woman...its like she exorcised a demon from her own son.

There is no way I would kick this confession. Regardless of whether they were Miradized or not, the confession was voluntary.

I agree. There is no disputing the validity of this confession.

What's sad is, she probably felt she was helping her son only to discover the monstrous acts he'd committed. I'm sure she still loves him, but what a burden she's bravely bearing.
