Charges possible for 80-year-old who killed burglar?

In Chicago, an 80-year-old veteran allegedly shot and killed a burglar in his home. In most places, there would be a perfunctory investigation, and the man would be cleared, the shooting ruled justified. This is Chicago, though, where the city has a handgun ban. The mayor wouldn't say today if the old man would be charged because of that.
