Jury sides with Kansas woman whose son hanged himself in jail

A federal jury has awarded $850,000 to a Kansas woman whose son hanged himself at a jail in Dodge County, Nebraska. The dead man, 37-year-old Troy Sampson, had been diagnosed as suicidal and needed mental-health care, something that his doctor and his mother told authorities. The county argued that jail officials didn't realize his intentions.
