From Christine Vendel: Kansas City police evacuated a Goodwill center, Big Lots store, a health center and a nearby parking lot in the Northland this afternoon after someone dropped off a suspicious package.
Bomb and arson investigators and a bomb-sniffing dog were at the scene near N.E. Vivion Road and N. Oak Trafficway.
A worker at the Salvation Army called police about 3 p.m. after finding a suspicious-looking propane tank with what appeared to be copper wires attached to it in a drop-off donation box. The worker had brought the donations inside and heard a ticking noise, police said. Police cleared the center and other businesses in the strip mall while they investigated.
