Should prison inmates be forced to get haircuts?

In Virginia, almost 50 inmates are being held in segregation because they refuse to cut their hair, usually for religious reasons, the Associated Press reports. At least 10 of those affected are Rastafarian and have been isolated for 10-plus years. Inmate advocates say it's cruel and a violation of their religious rights. Prison officials say they're afraid of inmates hiding weapons in long hair.
