Why do people love beating up mascots?

Two people were arrested after they allegedly beat up a woman in a Porky Pig costume at the Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ill., after getting their picture taken with Porky. The suspects actually work at the park, the Chicago Tribune reports. Unfortunately, costumed mascots are magnets for abuse, it seems. Ken Hegan had a good piece about the trend here.
