So did they catch them? I know that's that bluff overlooking NKC and you can see downtown from. My old stomping grounds...

Started just to the east of me and ended just to the west of me. I have to check the times again, I was headed home from golf league and was along there a little after 7 pm Tuesday.....

If you're gonna steal, folks - steal from WalMart. It keeps the prices up and lets the little guy be competitive. Maybe they'll even hire more security people, so you'll help to create jobs.
Of COURSE, you shouldn't steal. Work hard, live on less. But if you MUST - leave the rest of us alone and pick on WalMart.

I too want to know if they made it down the hill or flipped.

Seems a couple of times there could have been some accidents that could have gotten someone killed.
Question I have is, could it be a better policy to simply get the tags off the car and then catch them at home while they aren't driving the car. Given that the initial offense is pretty minor doesn't seem worth chasing these idiots and having them cause a serious accident.
Might be a lot of reasons to keep chasing them, just at the surface doesn't seem worth it. Just sayin...

James, need closure on this anecdote man! Did they catch them?
Posted by: G | Friday, September 03, 2010 at 09:46 AM
Sorry about that, guys: The car was halted thanks to stop sticks near I-35 and Parvin, and police arrested the folks inside.

all that for a couple petty theifs stealing some superman undies....risked half of KCs lives...great job KCPD...way to get your man....

Sorry James. The last picture where they took off over the hill is several miles away from I-35 and Parvin. The location is on the hillside next to the Broadway Bridge approach. The address you were given was where they left the highway for the surface roads.
If the arrest paperwork states the Parvin Road I wonder how bad the rest of the report is messed up.
I did enjoy the comments from the officer.

Didn't the video show the stop sticks at 1-35 and Parvin. So, if the report says the car was halted "thanks to stop sticks near 1-35 and Parvin" - then maybe that's just the location where the sticks got them - not where they eventually stopped.

They were caught in the Briarcliff area.

So much for KC's pursuit policy. I guess they gonna chase whoever they want regardless of the public's safety. I didn't know shoplifting was such a serious felony that the possibility of killing an innocent motorist in the path of the chase was worth the apprehension to keep more people safe. Go figure...
Posted by: Kevin | Friday, September 03, 2010 at 02:28 PM
Chasing down shoplifters is just not worth it. It's not like shoplifting ever really hurt anyone or put anyone out of business, is it? And besides, shoplifters never engage in any worse crimes, do they?

WTF! These cops think this is funny? They certainly seemed like they were having fun.
Endangering lives by chasing shoplifters? Fire Corwin and the supervisors on duty during this chase; hire more cops to deal with stopping crime, not just chasing low level bad guys.
Corwin, like most big city chiefs, is more a politician than a cop. To hell with statistics, I want to be able to walk in my neighborhood, see folks on the porches and front yards and see officers patrolling, not just responding to crimes scenes. Do you know any of the policemen in your area by name? Probably not, unless you are a crime victim.
Lots of OT tonight for KCPD officers; instead of patrolling, they'll be rousting citizens without probable cause. Again.

It is my understanding from channel 9, that the car involved struck a security guard at wal-mart and that was the reason for the chase.
Posted by: Jak Flash | Friday, September 03, 2010 at 04:39 PM
Yeah, Jak, but a security guard is almost a cop, so these people would be cool with them nearly running over a cop... they're probably okay with them nearly running over a security guard too.
Just get the tag number and catch them at home later, since most criminals are driving their own cars which are properly registered.
And, as usual, it's not the shitbirds running from the police that are placing the public in danger, it's the police that are doing the chasing.
You people are CLUELESS.

It was a 40 minute chase...40 freckin minutes! If I dont see someone charged with assault on the security guard and facing serious felony charges, then the chase was not worth the chance the police took endangering innocent people's lives.
I understand the cop groupies on here feel the police should be able to chase bad guys, and in most serious offenses I support the police chasing as well, but I'm sorry, this situation was made worse by the chase itself and just luckily no citizen was hurt.

"Just get the tag number and catch them at home later, since most criminals are driving their own cars which are properly registered"
I'm sure that when they went shoplifting at WalMart for the $100 worth of crap they didn't expect a police chase. It would require a little detective work to find the suspects.. but I guess that would be TOO MUCH to ask.
So some stolen goods would be worth the death of whomever happened to be walking in the neighborhood? Yeah that's pretty lame justification.
However, if the reason of pursuit was because they assaulted someone with their car (renta pig or citizen) then they were seriously injured then by all means give chase, but with caution.

Two questions:
(1) Did they catch the 'perps'?
(2) Who is the "just pull over" idiot?
