The Missouri Highway Patrol recorded two traffic fatalities over the holiday weekend, though that count doesn't include a man who died in a wreck near 19th and Troost. The patrol says this is among the lowest Christmas fatality counts since they started keeping track in 1978.
Unless there's a surge in the next few days, Missouri will end 2010 with a lower fatality count than 2009. Right now, the total stands at 803, compared to 866 at the same point last year. The overall count for 2009 was 878.
