Man bites stranger's neck after seeing new "Twilight" movie
In the interest of public safety, I think we should go ahead and burn the "Twilight" movies and books. Like, all of them, even the ones printed in Chinese and Swahili. And lock up the cast so they can't make any more movies. I'm just trying to think of the children.

Were Jewish kids targeted at Fla. school?
First, it was kids with red hair. Now? In Naples, Fla., 10 students were suspended their from middle school because they allegedly participated in "Kick a Jew Day." Unlike the "ginger" case from California, the discipline is all being handled in-house -- the Naples News' story doesn't mention any police involvement. The local Anti-Defamation League, though, says the incident might be covered by Florida's anti-bullying law.

UPDATE: Police won't treat "ginger beating" as a hate crime
In Calabasas, Calif., police think a Facebook posting declaring Friday as "Kick A Ginger Day" led to a red-haired 12-year-old getting attacked by 14 other students. ("Ginger" is a nickname / slur for people with red hair, light skin and freckles. It became especially popular a few years ago after a "South Park" episode.)
WARNING: There's some mild bad language in the clip above."
UPDATED: The L.A. Times says that police don't consider this a hate crime.

Mo. woman claims discrimination in Wal-Mart incident
We could get a verdict as soon as today in the case of Heather Ellis, a black woman accused of assaulting a cop and other crimes in Kennett, Mo. It all stems from a January 2007 incident at a Wal-Mart. Ellis allegedly cut in line at a register, which set off a "contretemps." She allegedly threatened another customer, screamed loudly and kicked two cops. Ellis says that police roughed her up and used racial slurs against her, and she says that store personnel refused to give her back her change and demanded to see her ID, even though she was paying with cash. (As the Post-Dispatch notes, another customer admits to cutting, too, and misbehaving, but didn't get into trouble.)
If Ellis gets convicted, she could theoretically get 15 years -- but because she's a schoolteacher with an otherwise clean record, so I sort of doubt she'd get the max.
