KCK police: Shooting of 3-year-old was accidental
The shooting, which seriously injured the child, happened Wednesday in the 100 block of S. 18th Street.
Kansas City, Kan., police announced today that detectives determined the following: When the child's mother exited the vehicle, the child climbed into the front seat and grabbed the handgun. When the mother reached for the gun, it discharged, striking the child in the mouth. The child has been placed in protective custody, and the Wyandotte County DA is reviewing the case for possible criminal charges.

UPDATE: Woman apologizes to cop who punched her
A few day ago, we had a story about a Seattle cop who was recorded punching a woman in the face after she shoved him during an arrest. (The cop was trying to arrest the woman's friend for jaywalking.) The woman who got punched has been charged with third-degree assault for shoving the officer. Meanwhile, the two of them have met privately, and the young woman has apologized to the policeman.

Two kids hurt during KC shooting
From KCPD: Today at approximately 4:40pm, police were called to a residence in the 3300 block of Agnes in regard to a shooting. Upon arrival a female shooting victim (approx. 8yrs old) was found with a gunshot wound to the hand. A second female shooting victim (also approx. 8yrs old) was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle with non life threatening injuries.
Witnesses say several people were on the front porch when someone in an unknown vehicle shot at them. Detectives are on the scene and anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816.474.8477.

Report: Boy hurt in KCK shooting
From Meredith Rodriguez: A young boy may have been shot in Kansas City, Kan., this evening. Police responded before 6 p.m. to the Cenex Gas Station at 164 S. 18th St., on a shooting report. There, according to the clerk, a woman parked at a gas pump and screamed that her son had been shot.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the gas station
In Surprise, Ariz., a man was sleeping in his truck outside a Chevron gas station when an employee knocked on the window to wake him up. The man flew into a rage, the Arizona Republic reports, because he was in the middle of a really good dream. So good that he allegedly attacked a cop and two medical workers.

1 hurt in shooting near 72nd and Flora
A man was critically injured in a shooting near 72nd and Flora about 1:45 p.m. today, KCPD says. Several people were in the car when someone in a maroon Hyundai fired at them. The victim and his companions fled the scene, but got into an accident at Gregory and 71 Highway. The victim was found there and rushed to a local hospital. Nobody has been arrested yet, but police ask that anyone with information call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).

Pool worker groped in Overland Park
A 19-year-old working at a neighborhood pool was groped by a stranger about 9:20 Sunday morning, Overland Park police say. It happened somewhere south of 135th Street, Chief Douglass' blog reports. They're looking for a suspect:
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’ 8” tall, average build, short blond hair, wearing a long sleeve white turtle neck shirt, and grey shorts. He had a square diamond earring in his right ear. The victim told the officers the suspect was driving a black or silver car.

'Jackass' star takes bat to the head
Bam Margera, who appeared on "Jackass" and his own MTV reality show, was reportedly hit in the head with a baseball bat over the weekend, the Philly Daily News reports. A 59-year-old woman was arrested, though she denies being responsible.

1 year for biting off sister's nose
A Michigan woman has been sentenced to a year in jail after she bit off a chunk of her sister's nose. (It occurred, as so many nose-maulings do, during "a drunken fight at their home," the Detroit Free Press says.) The defendant reportedly "expressed surprise" when she learned she was going to jail.

Charges filed in Shawnee road-rage case
From Joe Lambe: Johnson County prosecutors on Wednesday charged a 20-year-old Shawnee man with attempted first-degree murder after a road-rage shooting. Michael O. Williams is accused of shooting a 37-year-old man who showed up at a hospital with injuries from a shotgun.

Arrest made in Shawnee road-rage case
Shawnee police have made an arrest in a road-rage shooting from Friday, where a man was hit by a shotgun blast in the 10300 block of Shawnee Mission Parkway. The suspect, who hasn't been formally charged yet, is a 20-year-old from Shawnee, and he's currently being held at the Johnson County jail.

Victim signed 'agreement' allowing boyfriend to beat her, police allege
In Seattle, a 31-year-old man allegedly got his pregnant 19-year-old girlfriend to sign paperwork giving him "legal" permission to physically abuse her, though not in her "pregnant belly," police tell the Fox affiliate there.

Fast-food clerk expected to survive shot to the head
From Meredith Rodriguez: The clerk at a Chinese fast-food restaurant was shot during a robbery this evening. She was shot in the head, but she is expected to survive, according to detectives at the scene.
The robbery and subsequent shooting happened around 6 p.m. at the China Dragon at 7930 Troost Avenue. The victim was the only person inside the restaurant at the time, so detectives have limited suspect information on the male robber.

Overnight standoff follows Kan. deputy's shooting
A man has surrendered after an overnight standoff in Blue Rapids, which is north of Manhattan, the Cap-Journal reports. Steven A. Macomber was being sought in a Topeka homicide, and he's accused of shooting a Marshall County deputy and stealing his cruiser last night, then holing up in a nearby house. Macomber was hit during his attack on the deputy, who was shot in the wrist and back but will live.

Shawnee issues description in road-rage shooting
Shawnee police have released a suspect description in a road-rage shooting from Friday night, when a man was injured by a shotgun about 9:15 p.m. in the 10300 block of Shawnee Mission Parkway. Investigators are looking for a man in his late 20s or early 30s. He had a "medium" complexion and could be white or Hispanic. They believe he has dark hair, either wavy or curly.
The suspect wore a black polo shirt with writing on the right breast, along with khaki pants or shorts. He was on a red sport bike, a newer model, and he might be associated with a red, two-door sports car, possible a Nissan or Toyota. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).

Dad Tasers guy who sent nasty photo to his daughter, police allege
In Temecula, Calif., a man is accused of tying up and Tasering a 23-year-old who had sent a photo of his genitals to the suspect's 17-year-old daughter. (The "detention" allegedly lasted an hour and involved the younger man being stripped to his boxers and being told that he would be buried on a reservation.) The older man then handed the younger guy over to the authorities -- only he was the one who got arrested, KTLA-TV reports.

Sleeping man hurt after rifle round hits house
From Tony Rizzo: A Kansas City teen was charged Thursday with firing a military-style rifle into a house, wounding a sleeping man. Jackson County prosecutors charged Jordan M. Grimes, 17, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the shooting Saturday in the 5000 block of Bellefontaine Avenue.
