Big break in Miami County body case?

Police have identified the woman found dead near a Miami County highway, but they are not releasing her name. The case also has been transferred to Lenexa police, the Miami County undersheriff said today.

Meanwhile, Lenexa police on Thursday have arrested a 30-year-old man who is in jail booked on first-degree murder. The man had not been charged as of about 1 p.m. this afternoon, and police and prosecutors did not comment on whether the arrest was related to the woman’s death.

The woman was found dead Wednesday morning along U.S. 69. She was a partially clothed white female in her late 20s or early 30s wearing a black T-shirt with the words “Back Yard Burgers” on it.

50 months for fatal JoCo hit-and-run

Clark Montgomery -- a trucker who hit art teacher Rita Huscher's van last June -- has been sentenced to 50 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter. And he's been ordered to write a letter to the 84-year-old's family, explaining why he didn't stay after the accident. (Montgomery, who was driving on a suspended license, hit Huscher's minivan from behind, causing it to hit a pillar on K-7 near 95th.) Montgomery also apologized to the family in court, Dawn Bormann reports.
