Breaking up is hard to do, especially if the police get involved
Some breakups are worse than others. If your old girlfriend allegedly gets her new lovah to stalk you while wearing a ski mask and then tells police that you sexually assaulted her, you have sadly landed in the "worse than others" category. From the Iowa City Press-Citizen:
However, police later learned McDonald made up the story in an attempt to get retribution at her ex-boyfriend for things he said to her on the phone. McDonald admitted to wanting to "give him a jolt" in retaliation for those comments, police said.

Girlfriend chased, gunned down on E. St Louis highway
Boyfriend then shot and killed himself, in front of his 7-year-old daughter -- and many, many other cars stalled on the highway.
"She was running to cars saying 'Please help me! Please help me!" said Scott Cross, 38, of East St. Louis. "We were going to help until we saw that gun."

Guilty: 16-year-old who killed girl that rejected her advances
Sad/disturbing story from Florida, where a 16-year-old section leader in the marching band shot and killed her 15-year-old friend.
In the days leading up to Collette's death, Wimberly had been sending her friend text messages declaring her love. Collette, a star dancer on the school's hip-hop dance squad, rejected the advances.
Wimberly told police that she shot her friend "so she would feel pain too."

A woman scorned
The latest in a great murder story from LA -- a 23-year-old cold case, a love triangle, a DNA-laden bite-mark and a police detective as the suspect:
Stephanie Lazarus, the Los Angeles Police Department detective accused of murdering the wife of a love interest, pined for the man and grew deeply upset when he did not return her affection, according to court testimony Tuesday.
Prosecutors allege that Lazarus, a 25-year LAPD veteran, beat and shot Sherri Rae Rasmussen to death in February 1986, three months after the woman married John Ruetten, whom Lazarus had dated shortly before.

"Alcoholic nymphomaniac" clashes with police
I don't know where to start. It's not so much a "hot mess" as it is several "hot messes" situated in proximity to each other. A "hot landfill" maybe? Here's the crucial paragraph, courtesy of nwfdailynews.com:
The 23-year-old woman also told them she was a nymphomaniac and an alcoholic and that her estranged husband had been staying with her for a week, ever since she asked him over to have sex and he never left.
After further questioning, she said, "You know what? Just take me to jail."
