Take note

String thing
Together for almost a decade, the jazz group Interstring has an
undisputed reputation as one of the best in town.
Bassist Bob Bowman, drummer Todd Strait and guitarists Danny
Embrey and Rod Fleeman play not only around the Midwest but also as
frequent sidemen of choice for national and international jazz
artists.
The release of the group's first CD, "Odahoda," will be marked
Saturday at a party at the Blue Room at the Kansas City Jazz Museum,
18th and Vine. Pronounced "Oh-h-h-h-h dahoda" the CD is named after
the state of Idaho, as interpreted by Fleeman's young son.
"This was a case where the song title came first," Fleeman
said. "Bob loved saying the name so much at the end of gigs that he
wrote a tune for it."
Hear "Oh-h-h-h-h-h dahoda" and more from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30
a.m. Saturday. There is no cover charge.

UPN update
The UPN network is assuring Kansas City viewers that its programs
will return here - eventually.
"We guarantee that within a maximum of two months we will be
back on the air with UPN programming in their market, and probably
less," said a spokesman for network on Tuesday.
The spokesman could not be more specific, as talks are continuing
among UPN; Sinclair Broadcast Group of Baltimore, which owns KSMO,
Channel 62, which dropped UPN in January; and possibly another party
that owns or operates a station in Kansas City.
It is believed Sinclair is asking for cash in exchange for
returning UPN to the air in the markets where it dropped the network.
UPN has never made such compensation to any station, the spokesman
said.
