Remote patrol

I never thought I would issue a VCR alert for the duller-than-dull Thursday prime-time schedule, but at 8 tonight you'll have an impossible choice among "Frasier" (Channel 41), "Cupid" (Channel 9, recently transplanted from Saturdays) and "Turks," which begins tonight on Channel 5. Despite its premise - another Irish Catholic family drama involving law enforcement and the church - this one looks good right from the opening scene. William Devane, who like Robert Urich seems on an endless search for a hit show, stars as the patriarch of a family full of Chicago's finest. He has the "let's be careful out there" gig at the police station, while his sons work the beat. Beyond that, however, lies miles of moral ambiguity. That, the presence of Sarah Trigger and the Celtic-tinged soundtrack all suggest that CBS is giving darker dramas another try after the failure two years ago of "EZ Streets."
