Remote patrol weekend

Finally, a prime-time cartoon that doesn't instantly remind you of "The Simpsons." Which is interesting, since one of the two creators of the WB's "Baby Blues" (7 and 7:30 tonight, Channel 62) is an old "Simpsons" producer and wrote 10 episodes of that show. Based on the popular comic strip, "Baby Blues" is the story of a young couple with a new baby and a new house. But don't let the mild-sounding premise scare you off: This show has got an edge, and in fact you may want to give it a peek before letting the kids watch it. But it's very funny, both in its absurdist moments (this is, after all, a cartoon) and in its skewering of young parenthood. Mike O'Malley, whose NBC sitcom crashed and burned last year, is the voice of the super-square husband Darryl, Julia Sweeney is the voice of Darryl's wife, Wanda, and Joel Murray is the loutish neighbor. Also listen for "Drew Carey Show" star Diedrich Bader and two voices from "Rugrats." Tonight on Baby Blues (7 on 62 ): Unable to get any sleep because of baby Zoe's incessant wailing, Wanda (Julia Sweeney) and Daryl (Mike O'Malley) consult their neighbors for advice. As it turns out, young Rodney (Kath Soucie) - normally the bane of the neighborhood - turns out to be the couple's best source. 66031 (CC) At 7:30: A tragedy at his workplace forces Daryl to consider his family's status regarding life insurance, and it also prompts Wanda (Julia Sweeney) to make a deal with neighbor Melinda (Arabella Field) in this repeat of the show's pilot. Afterward, a camping trip unleashes kept secrets and bruised feelings. 99857 (CC) @ART CAPTION:Darryl and Wanda getting an earful from Zoe. @ART:Photo >>>
