Remote patrol

Hallmark's Odyssey channel this week airs two epics from the father of the mini-series, Alex Haley: "Roots," which remains one of TV's greatest achievements, and "Queen," which first aired in 1993, a year after Haley's death. "Queen" begins at 8 tonight. "Queen" stars Halle Berry as the illegitimate child born to a slave woman and a plantation owner's son. As the Civil War ends, Queen finds herself unable to assimilate into either black or white society. In time her youthful idealism turns to resentment and anger. But there is a happy ending as Queen gives birth and watches her offspring succeed in the world - including Haley, who based "Queen" on his paternal grandmother's story. "Roots" will air in two big gulps from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 18. @ART CAPTION:Tim Daly with Halle Berry in 'Queen' @ART:Photo >>>
