New on the tube

Kate Brasher Airs: 8 p.m., CBS (Channel 5) Stars: Mary Stuart Masterson, Hector Elizondo, Rhea Perlman, Mason Gamble, Gregory Smith In brief: Young single mom takes thrill-a-minute job at local community center. But is it any good? Mighty heartwarming, even though the young-mother-of-teen-agers shtick is getting a little old (see "Gilmore Girls"), as is the game of follow-the-camera-around-the-crisis ("ER," "West Wing"). Interesting tension between Kate (Masterson), who reads Bible verses at random, and her new boss (Elizondo), an atheist. Is it a survivor? Being an obvious match for its lead-in, "That's Life," should help. Look for heavy promotion during "Judging Amy," this show's soulmate. - You can reach Aaron Barnhart through the TV Barn Web site at www.tvbarn.com @ART CAPTION:Masterson @ART:Photo >>>
