Bugs of the future

Last week, the Looney Tunes spinoff "Loonatics Unleashed" signed on in Kids WB syndication. Much criticized when it was announced earlier this year, the project turns out to be not really worth getting worked up over -- and, from what I can tell, nobody is.  However, the corporate recycling of copyrighted characters does bring up a larger issue, and in this age of Internet fan fiction and unauthorized fanfilms, it is worth asking: When will Bugs Bunny finally enter the public domain, so that someone other than a Time Warner employee or subcontractor can have some fun remaking him?
