Riverfront bike tour

Pa010090 I took part in a 23-mile bike ride on Saturday along some of the recently finished trails lining the city's riverfront. Well, "lining" might be too generous a word; the trails certainly stayed within a mile or so of the Kansas and Missouri rivers for at least part of the ride. But that wasn't really the point, I don't think. The point was to show that local dreamers are putting every spare nickel and dime they can scrounge toward building what is the Mid-America Regional Council's grand dream of an 1,100-mile interconnected system of trails throughout the six- or seven-county area. I'm for that.

I learned about the ride from a column last week by my colleague Mike Hendricks, which supplies more background about the project, known as MetroGreen.

Watch my slideshow at Flickr. While watching it, you can click on any photo to see the caption. And click below to download a movie I made of a cow shaker I saw along the way. Yeah, I said cow shaker.
