Jerry Rice on the dance floor?

I interviewed Kevin Nealon last night at the Improv, just opened in Kansas City at the spiffy new Majestic Theatres in the Northland. Nealon figures prominently in this weekend's NBC prime time special, "Saturday Night Live in the 1980s: Lost and Found." In fact, a routine he once did involving a road map is the motif for the two-hour special (get it? lost?). Not that Nealon will be watching -- he'll be performing at the Improv through Sunday night.

The real news, though, came at the end of our interview, when he revealed that he's contemplating an offer to be part of the next "Dancing with the Stars" when the celebrity ballroom series returns to ABC in January:

So far I think they have Jerry Rice, Robert Wagner, Lisa Rinna and Nick Lachey, he’s got a brother, Drew Lachey. So if it’s a lot of people like that, I’m not sure I want to be part of it. ... It’s like when I play “Celebrity Poker Showdown.” I don’t want to be the first one out. I don’t want to look like an idiot. Or clumsy. But I think it’d be fun.

In other news, set your dials once more to public radio's "Marketplace" this afternoon. Yes, it's a twofer, as this time I'll be sound-biting my thoughts on the new iPod Emmy category announced today. Update: Here's the audio.

And this just in:

The WB Network and Spelling Television announced today that 7TH HEAVEN, the longest-running family drama in television history, will conclude its historic 10-year run on The WB at the end of this season. (WB PR)

Maybe it's just coincidence, but for the first time since "7th Heaven" signed on the air, it is not the No. 1-rated show on the network.  That distinction now belongs, barely, to "Smallville."

Finally, this: Intrepid research reveals that Gary Hogeboom's claim on last night's "Survivor" to have once passed for 300 yards in a single quarter were not as bogus as originally thought:
