Less painful than the other re-branding
We learned on Wednesday that Ralph Edwards had died at 92. Ralph was a young man when he created, for radio, two programs that would later migrate to TV and become huge successes for him: "This Is Your Life" and "Truth or Consequences." And as you may know, the town of Hot Springs, N.M., in 1950 voted to change its name to Truth or Consequences as part of a PR stunt dreamed up by Edwards. (What you may not have known was that the town's residents really meant it, reaffirming their decision in three more elections over the next 17 years.)
How fitting that as Ralph Edwards was leaving this world, news should reach us about a town in Texas that changed its name to Dish to promote the satellite TV network:

Surprise, they're all getting free dish.
