Tomlinson guilty ... of being sneaky

Well, the inspector general's report is out...

Link: CPB: Office of the Inspector General.

... and I can't imagine anybody is thrilled by it. Yeah, leftie critics of former CPB chairman Ken Tomlinson were happy that the IG found serious improprieties in the way Tomlinson paid for someone to monitor Bill Moyers and Tavis Smiley without getting board approval. But they won't like the Band-Aid recommendation the IG makes, which is that CPB's board should strengthen its corporate governance. After all, it's possible the current board, packed with Bush cronies, would have rubber stamped Tomlinson's archest designs anyway.

On the other hand, supporters of Kenny will not be heartened by the report. These are serious charges, and the IG's fair-mindedness should make them airtight. And Tomlinson's sins will like cast a shadow over his hand-picked successor, Pat Harrison, not to mention add yet another embarrassment to this administration, one that could be compounded with still more charges when a recently launched State Department probe of Tomlinson reaches fruition.
