From Islamabad to Peculiar
Here's something that doesn't happen everyday.
KCTV-5, the news leader at 10 p.m. with its aggressive, "live-late breaking-investigative" approach to everything from sexual predators to wayward cars, just hired the replacement to former I-team reporter Steve Chamraz, who moved across state to KMOV-TV.
His replacement is Ash-Har Quaraishi ... who until recently was CNN's bureau chief in Islamabad. He speaks four languages, and covered the Danny Pearl story, among others.
Said his new boss, Regent Ducas, told me: "He and his wife had their first child and wanted to raise him back in the United States and more importantly the Midwest. He'll definitely add diversity and experience to the Kansas City market. He's experienced more in a short time than most local reporters have in their careers."
Ash-Har Quraishi (Usher KA-rah-chi) will join the KCTV5 News team as the new Chief Investigative Reporter.
Quiraishi most recently served as CNN’s bureau chief for the network’s Islambad, Pakistan bureau. Among the stories he covered were the kidnapping and killing of American journalist Daniel Pearl and he was the first reporter to cover the capture of Al Qaeda operative Khalid Shaikh Mohammad.
Quiraishi, graduated from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
with a degree in Journalism.
He will continue the award-winning
tradition of KCTV5 News’ hard-hitting Investigative team, which has
won a National Headliner award along with three Edward R. Murrow awards
and three Investigative Reporters and Editors awards.
“Ash-Har’s experience and diverse background, I’m confident, will bring investigative journalism in the Kansas City market to a new level,” news director Regent Ducas said.
KCTV5 has been Kansas City’s CBS Network affiliate since 1955. KCTV5 is committed to deliver the highest quality news, information and entertainment programming. KCTV5 operates with the highest commitment to the local community, and will provide service to our customers that is second to no other.
