My shows of shows

At the end of each year I try to identify the dozen or so outstanding new contributions to television in the preceding 12 months. I know that a lot of critics like to take into account every TV show in their year-end lists. But honestly, if you weren't watching "Gilmore Girls" five years ago, why would you now? Whereas it's a safe bet that at least half of my top picks passed you by.  And since most are on DVD at this point, I figure I'm doing readers a favor. You're welcome!
