About that other show last night...
In case you missed the "7th Heaven" finale -- and like most of America, can barely be bothered to find where the WB is on your TV dial, especially since it's going away in three weeks -- here is Frazier Moore's wrapup.
After my colleague Tim Engle read Moore's story, however, he felt compelled to add some more details he thought Moore missed or glossed over. True "7th Heaven" fans should read on.
The big shocker, a great soap-opera twist, was that Simon, who had just dodged the bullet of marrying Rose, is apparently the father of Sandy’s baby. I haven’t been watching the show faithfully, but a lot of diehard fans saw that coming.
But where the heck was Martin (the
guy who was supposed to have fathered the baby) in the finale?
Most over-the-top moment: the news
that not one couple, not two couples, but THREE couples – Matt and Sarah, Mary
and Carlos, and Lucy and Kevin – are all expecting twins. [NOTE: That didn't surprise me. After all, a previous season of "7th Heaven" ended with two Camden couples expecting, including Eric and Annie with twins, so this seemed a fairly obvious bit of one-upsmanship.--AB]
Scene that dragged the most: when
Eric and Annie are imagining what might happen at the altar. This is when we get
the fantasy of Jessica Biel as Mary flying down the aisle to stop the
wedding.
And speaking of Mary, why was she
used so little? From what I’ve read, she agreed to do the finale only at the
last minute, so she was just sort of stuck in. [NOTE: You mean she phoned it in.--AB]
I actually liked the way they did
the last act – keeping the audience in suspense about what happened at the
wedding. And I liked the final scene, when the rest of the reception crowd has
vanished and only the Camdens are dancing. Would’ve been nice if
Biel had been in that
scene, though. [NOTE: Are you kidding? The Lisa Bonet of "7th Heaven"? Leaving her out was the perfect way to end things. I never liked her anyway.--AB]
