Sci Fi ... why?
Reader James Winchester has discovered a new rule among certain cable channels:
If the ratings are going into the tank for your genre specific network, repudiate your core audience. Cartoon Network, Tech TV, and now The SciFi Channel have made this move. In Scifi's case, reruns of Law & Order: SVU are being shown tonight. Most fans of science fiction programs are going to hit the remotes the minute they see what's happening, and I don't think the defectors will be offset by new viewers. On the other hand, maybe they'll change the name to The Law & Order Channel: Vintage...
But here's the thing -- NBC already owns a cable channel supposedly devoted to rerunning its vintage crime shows. Granted, almost nobody besides me even gets the Sleuth channel, but why impose a version of it on unsuspecting sci-fi fans?
Speaking of crime shows, this from David Hussong ...
Last week's CSI Vegas was a perfect example of how this show can maintain freshness despite its long run. The writing and cinematography worked together so well, I watched with a smile for the entire hour. Last year's finale was directed by Tarantino, any news on this year's finale?
Well, I haven't heard about any crime-solving SUVs being inserted into the show as "characters" so that CBS could make even more headcheese off its No. 1 show. But if I learn anything I'll pass it along.
