Charlie Gibson is in at "World News." Katie Couric is out at "Today."

Funny scene of the morning: Watching the end of the farewell to Couric on the "Today Show," followed immediately by a promo for the next day's show ... featuring the two "American Idol" finalists. Rumor has it there may be some shows this fall for the "Today Show" to promote that are actually on NBC.

Couric. Ugh. I caught some of her farewll this morning...maudlin and embarrassing. Sadly, Gibson has been tainted by the morning show lack of gravitas. Both are a far cry from the likes of Cronkite and Peter Jennings. So this is how the world ends...

Hey, if you think Charlie Gibson was tainted by his association with morning news, you probably don't want to know that Walter Cronkite did his time in that timeslot as well -- with a puppet.

Were John Chancellor and Tom Brokaw tainted by the "morning show lack of gravitas?"
