"Everwood" lives! (in a Burbank parking lot)
The chief programmer of the CW said yesterday that "Everwood" was cancelled because it "was the oldest show out of either UPN or The WB," the two networks the CW is replacing, and that it "had never been able to really anchor a night," the way that "7th Heaven," which got a last-minute reprieve, had.
Doesn't seem to me, though, that the people buying Variety ads and staging media blitzes on behalf of saving "Everwood" are old coots. (Although I will say most of the phone calls I get from local fans of the show identify themselves as older viewers. Many of them add that they watch with their daughters or even granddaughters.)
Anyway, the big "Save Everwood" event is this Friday, in Burbank. Read on.
Everwood Fans Set Date For Ferris Wheel Stunt
by Michelle Sapp
Get ready, because here they come. Fans of the recently cancelled show Everwood, who call themselves Everwoodians, are making sure that the networks, and the world, know that they are not going away quietly.
Earlier this summer, Everwoodians, upset about the season-turned-series finale announcement, starting planning a series of stunts to raise media and network awareness about the CW's ill-judged actions. Fans have sent mass amounts of letters, sheet music, pinecones, and e-mails. Now the focus is on the "Grand Gesture" Ferris Wheel plan. After a month of planning and working out the details, the "Save Everwood" campaign collective has announced a date. Friday July 21, 2006, will be a day that goes down in history. A stunt of this magnitude will set a precedent for all fandoms that come after.
This event is not only to get Everwood back, it is to draw attention to Everwood's large and loyal fan base. By doing so, they hope to get the rest of the seasons of Everwood out on DVD. But most importantly, it will show the Cast, Crew, and Creative Team how much the show has meant to all of the fans.
And July 21, isn't just any ol' day either. The fans made sure that the date and location of the stunt would coincide with The Television Critics Awards and Press Tour, to maximize media exposure.
The event will take place on July 21, 2006 1-6pm PST, in the parking lot of Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School, located at 3333 West Oak St., Burbank, California 91505. They chose this spot for its proximity to The CW offices AND Warner Home Video. Everwoodians are hard at work as we speak, contacting various media outlets with the details, and sending out invitiations.
All fans are encouraged to attend, as well as all members of the media, network execs of the CW, WB, and UPN, any critics in town for the TCA's and Press tour, and the Cast/Crew and Creative Team from Everwood. Need more info? log on to www.save-everwood.org
