Hey, Jay -- where's the love?
On Thursday, Jay Leno opened his "Tonight Show" monologue with this joke about our fair city:
Did you hear about this? The Channel 5 news team in Kansas City showed hidden camera footage of mice living onboard an American Airlines plane. As many as 1,000 mice were on the plane infesting everything. Eating insulation, chewing through wires...And that was in first class. In coach, it was giant wharf rats and fire ants. Is that amazing? A thousand mice living on the plane. Here's the ironic part: it all started with just two mice that wanted to join the mile high club.
But as it turns out, Jay got the station wrong. Channel 5 is, of course, the notorious (and highly rated) CBS affiliate KCTV, and the reason most people here didn't blink an eye at an NBC show referencing a CBS station's story is that this sounds like exactly the kind of story KCTV-5 would do. Over two nights. In sweeps.
The punchline? KCTV-5 didn't do the story -- the local NBC affiliate did. The one that carries "The Tonight Show." Oops.
