"The Capitol": Flight 93's real legacy
Yes, I'm buying the idea that the fourth hijacked plane was headed for the U.S. Capitol. For now. I think it's a good frame of mind to be in while watching C-SPAN's grandest project yet, the nine-hour, three-night special "The Capitol," which originally aired over Memorial Day and gets a reairing beginning at 8 ET tonight on C-SPAN. Here's the companion website and, if you missed it, my original story.
Here's that interview I promised you with Mark Farkas (mp3), the C-SPAN producer who worked two years on "The Capitol." He talks about why Congress turned down other cable networks that tried to film the building, why he shot five hours of the program in HD video even though C-SPAN won't be high-definition, like, ever, and why this is likely to be the most anyone will see of the Capitol in this post-9/11 era. (In the picture, an artist's rendering of the future visitors' center that will steer the public away from the Capitol itself.)
