Speaking of sports
Tonight's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" on HBO offers a workmanlike recap of the career of Dick Ebersol, the man who has guided NBC Sports through various Olympiads, the XFL and now, Sunday Night Football. I also enjoyed Mary Carillo's update on the inner-city kids' polo club.
Yesterday was the debut of Tony Kornheiser on "Monday Night Football," as well as that franchise's debut on ESPN. Although Tony didn't get any love from his own newspaper, I am here to say that I liked everything about the new "MNF," from Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire being gone to Mike Tirico in the booth, Michele Tafoya on the sidelines and of course, let's hear it for the bald guy!
I said as much on the Paul Harris Show yesterday.
