REVIEWS: "Til Death," "Happy Hour"

Brad Garrett is starring in “’Til Death,” one of two new sitcoms debuting tonight on Fox beginning at 7 CT. That alone is reason to check out this show, which has the unenviable task of competing with “Survivor” and “My Name Is Earl” in a couple of weeks. Those are going to do to Garrett’s show what … well, what “Everybody Loves Raymond,” his old show, used to do to the competition.

He plays a guy in a long and seemingly loveless marriage to Joely Fisher, a fact that is brought into comic relief when an insanely happy pair of honeymooners (Eddie Kaye Thomas and Kat Foster) move in next door. Garrett decides to shatter any illusions the younger hubby has that this state of marital bliss is going to last. His hangdog reactions and beaten-down baritone still serve him well here.

But “’Til Death” seems a pretty thin concept. Won’t it be the same show every week? Or will anyone even be watching once the other networks’ shows come back?

“Happy Hour,” which follows at 7:30 on Fox 4, is a total 18- to 34-year-old male fantasy: a bachelor pal with a bar better stocked than many hotel lounges, hot women available at a moment’s notice and a good-looking boss who hits on her employees, even goofy-looking ones like Henry (John Sloan). His swingin’ roommate Larry (Lex Medlin) sets the mood with Sinatra music throughout the show, but I don’t get a kick out of you, “Happy Hour.”
