Local dude wins "Survivor"

Like your television critic late on a Sunday night, Earl Cole probably doesn't know an immunity idol from an immunity necklace.  He doesn't care.

Cole, a 36-year-old native of KCK, as we call the other Kansas City around here, the one in Kansas, won "Survivor" Sunday night. On the local news he said Mom would get half the dough.

Cole was a most unusual winner, having never seen the show, having been plucked from the applicants' pool just three days before flying to Fiji, and not having won a single immunity challenge. But through a smooth combo of luck and skill, he hit the jackpot. As you'll read below, he knew before anybody else in America that he had won the game.
