TV Barn's TV Picks to end
It has been a great run for our fractured daily look at the TV listings, but this weekend's TV Barn's TV Picks will be the last.
Tom Heald reminded me recently that it all started when I went on vacation five years ago, and he contributed a few listings highlights. I liked them so much that I encouraged him to go daily with them, and paired him with Jon Delfin who supplied valuable editing work to the enterprise.
The TV Picks were featured on Yahoo's TV news page and hundreds signed up for the mailing list. But I wasn't ever actually able to pay the guys for all this content, so it was inevitable that we'd have to shut down. And now I feel the time is right, as they say in the Cialis ads.
But I do want to say this — no TV listings guide I ever saw on the Internet, or in print, was anything like TV Barn's TV Picks. It was an original. From the amazing quizzes to the hilariously obscure references embedded in every issue to the new math of "Tele-gebra," there was so much packed into some editions of TV Picks that it could've be sold in stores. Alas, it was not sold in stores, or anywhere else. And yet, while it never became financially rewarding, TV Picks was rewarding to read. I think we're going to figure out a way to enshrine some of its more timeless features, like the quizzes, in permanent form here at TV Barn.
I've told them privately, I tell them here: Thank you, Tom. Thank you, Jon.
