For those of you who are in love with Al Jazeera, check out this IHT article about A.J. by Judea Pearl, mother of the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.

Another perspective, or jihad TV?

(NOTE: This is the "lamentable op-ed" that Dave Marash refers to in our podcasted interview.--AB)

Judea Pearl claims "the headline on the [Al Jazeera web] site read, "Ahmadinejad Praised by Participants of the Holocaust Conference in Tehran, but Condemned by Zionists in Europe"

I have never seen such a head line on Al Jazeera English web site. She is probably confusing a site called aljazeera.com with Al Jazeera TV. This headline very much sounds like something that are usually on aljazeera.com web site. Al Jazeera TV web site is aljazeera.net/English (i.e. it's .net, not .com).

I just emailed Judea Pearl and he says that yes he saw that headline on Alzeera.com, but he still seems to confused and claims that Alzeera.com is owned by Qatar.

Judea Pearl article appeared both in the NY Times and IHT. Both of these newspapers need to correct this claim. Can anyone reach these two newspapers and let them know that the claim is false? The article is still on the NY Time and IHT sites.

I am quoting below my second email to Judea Pearl

-- begin quote --
I am sorry but you are completely wrong. Aljazeera.com is COMPLETELY unrelated to Qatar or the satellite TV channel Al Jazeera, which
operates websites in both Arabic ( www.aljazeera.net ) and English
(english.aljazeera.net). The people who own Aljazeera.com have no connection to aljazeera TV channel or Qatar.

aljazeera.com originated in London and they have an office (apparently) in Dubai. They have no links to Qatar.

In 2005, the Al Jazeera TV channel failed in an attempt to obtain the aljazeera.com domain name via WIPO Arbitration (see) (http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2005/d2005-0309.html).

I think you need to retract this claim now that you know that the site
where the headline appeared has NO LINKS WHATSOEVER to Qatar or Al Jazeera TV. Jazeera is a common name in Arabic (example: Kuwait has an airline that is called Jazeera Airlines).
