I'm here, as planned, for the second annual Mirror Awards luncheon at the NBC Rainbow Room. I understand if I lose, I will be permanently ensconced in a 1924 photograph of revelers on the north wall. At any rate, it's been good to come here and catch up with friends and associates, which it seems I have fewer chances to do as the years go by. Seems hard to believe that back in my freelance days, when I was earning beans, I came out here five or six times a year.
After the Mirrors are handed out, I'll head to the offices of Broadcasting & Cable for a TV critics' lookahead to the 2008-09 television season, such as it is, for an upcoming fall preview issue. I'll finish the day with a trip to "The Daily Show." And then come right back home — after all, I've got tickets to see our red-hot Royals Tuesday night!

As they used to say across the Eats River from your luncheon -- "You wuz robbed".
I suspect the political incorrectness of your views expressed in the Al Jazeera piece were too much for even the Newhouse folks to accept.
Too bad.
While I disagree with many of the points you made in that article it was amazing to see how few people in the mass media managed to have the guts to make them.
So hooray, again, for you.
A free press expressing only a couple of "approved" viewpoints is hardly free.
